Wedding Reception Venue

Some types of wedding reception venues:
Banqueting Suite, Church Hall, Home, Hotel, Marquee, Private Club, Restaurant or Village Hall.

Banqueting Suite

Pro ~ Can organise all the catering and other arrangements leaving the newlyweds and their family to enjoy the celebrations.

Con ~ Can be very expensive.

Church Hall

Pro ~ Can be quite inexpensive and local.

Con ~ May have some covenants on alcohol. - Most of the setting up and clearing away is down to the organisers.

Home

Pro ~ Costs virtually nothing as a venue and there will be no travelling involved for the family. It may be less expensive than many other options.

Com ~ May get some damage to fixtures and fittings as they are not designed for heavy use.

Home as the wedding reception venue is only suitable for a small number of guests. It is informal and can be a more relaxed affair. If not using caterers it is possible to hire crockery, glasses and even a water boiler. Alternatively you can borrow equipment from family and friends or use disposable items.

Hotel

Pro ~ Can organise all the catering, accommodation for guests and other arrangements leaving the newlyweds and their family to enjoy the celebrations.

Con ~ Can be very expensive.

Wedding Reception Venue

Marquee

Pro ~ Can work out quite cheap if you have enough room for the erection.

Con ~ You may need to hire toilet facilities too - as you don't want guests trailing into the house from the garden! You may be happy to use toilet facilities in the house although for a large reception portable toilets should be hired. You will probably have to hire in a bar too.

Many marquee hire companies have brochures which allow you to choose the marquee and items such as flooring, lighting, matting, etc. Choose a company that is prepared to visit the venue before they accept the order. This ensures that they will be aware of any likely problems the erection site may present. Make sure they are prepared to be available or on call if any problems occur on the day at the wedding reception venue. Marquees are usually erected a couple of days before the wedding day.

Private Club

Pro ~ The bar will be taken care of. Can work out quite cheap as the club will make a profit on the bar.

Con ~ You may have to organise the set up and clearing away.

Restaurant

Pro ~ Can organise all the catering and other arrangements leaving the newlyweds and their family to enjoy the celebrations.

Con ~ Can be very expensive.

Village Hall

Pro ~ Can be quite inexpensive and local.

Con ~ May have some covenants on alcohol. - Most of the setting up and clearing away is down to the organisers.
